Spring state assessments for elementary and middle school

A Message from the Department of Teaching and Learning

This听spring,听students听in grades听3听through听8听and high school听will听take听state听assessments听in math, English language arts and science.听

  • Grades 3-8听and 10听will take听the Smarter Balanced听English language arts听(ELA)听and math assessments.
  • Grades听5,听8听and 11听will take听the听Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS)

These assessments give students, families and schools valuable data that helps us understand student and school strengths and challenges compared to peers in the district and across Washington state.听

These听ELA, math and science assessments are all designed to be completed in a single online session, though students can take the time they need.听

Your school will be sending follow-up information with specific testing dates and times.听For more information about what these tests measure听and听why we give them, please see听our website听or the state鈥檚 website at听

We听encourage you to keep听these tests听in perspective of our overall goals.听

Results from these tests will be available听after testing. We will notify听families听when听score reports听are available in your听child(ren)鈥檚听Portfolio on Skyward Family Access. You may also request a paper copy of听test听results by calling your school.听
